Fathia Balgahoon teaches at Fort Lee High School in Fort Lee, New Jersey. Balgahoon and another educator confiscated students’ phones before giving a presentation on the history of Israel that, among many other falsehoods
Described Hamas as an "armed resistance movement"
Claimed pro-Hamas, anti-Israel protests on campus were "peaceful"
Downplayed the October 7 Hamas attacks as "clashes" and lauded Hamas for "breaking out" of Gaza
Called Hamas a “resistance movement”
The presentation even “instructs the students to ‘remember that not every Jewish person’ believes in Israel’s right to exist and that ‘having anti-zionist stance [sic] does not mean you are anti-semitic.’”
That’s right. Fathia Balgahoon and a fellow teacher fed high school juniors lies about Israel and Hamas, made sure students could not document them giving disinformation, and painted anti-Israel sentiments as socially acceptable.
Parents demanded an investigation into these teachers for “sugarcoating” Hamas – but they have not been held accountable, and will not until – at the earliest – a school board meeting that takes place nearly a month after the presentation was given.
